In NSW primary schools, the study of a language is optional.
Language study allows students to develop communication skills, learn about languages as systems and explore the relationship between language and culture. Students engage with the linguistic and cultural diversity of societies and reflect on their understanding of social interactions.
Chinese community language classes
Native background students are able to attend Chinese community language classes, timetabled from Monday to Thursday. Lessons are linked to the content of work undertaken in their classes.
A Friday program is operating to enable non-native background students from Years 1 to 4 an insight into Chinese culture and language.
